So, another year another Color of the Year announcement from Pantone. For the first time in a few years, I feel like things are moving in a more unexpected, bold direction. For some years I feel like we all knew what the next color would be. And as much as I loved this year´s emerald, I´m obsessed with this year´s choice!

“While the 2013 color of the year, PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald, served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity, Radiant Orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “An invitation to innovation, Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today’s society.”

“An enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm.”

It is ultimately the designers and consumers who really make or break the colors announced but I believe its going to work well for interiors and actually I have a bunch of things in that color in my apt. It is a color that coordinates beautifully with pale yellow, and, the neutral of the moment, gray, as well as with pale, warm taupes, creamy whites and soft metallics. I also think of fashion and it will look gorgeous in spring florals and summery outfits, as well as take us to the colder weather clothing.

What do you think?

Here is the full announcement from Pantone.
